AN INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH : BY SHAKIRA
Hello Your Excellency, Beauty, Friends, and Partners. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be here today. It is also an honor to join EducatedChild, an organization led by a wonderful role model - a woman who has shown such unwavering commitment to getting all the children in school. This is a happy day for us because it marks the beginning of a new era in our country Colombia. Many of you may know me as an artist, as an ignorant person, and that is exactly what my calling and I have been doing since I was 13, but I would never have imagined when I started my career as an artist would end up a car that I would use for my ultimate goal of working against poverty. Like the inequality of the Colombian citizen as the idea that sadly a person becomes very accustomed to it at a very young age. It is a country like many others in Latin America where few have more; much is empty and if you are born poor, you will probably die poor. When people do not have equal opportunities, and because of that generation, generation after generation lives trapped in the same cycle caused by apartheid and unemployment. Growing up in my country when I was eight years old, I remember seeing children my age, instead of going to school and working on the streets, they had no shoes in the park. Children like me were completely different from me because of the circumstances in which they were born. It was hard for me to accept that to accept that something so unfair had no solution. There had to be something to be done. So I often wondered why the adults around me ignored the fact that these kids who were like me or their children were living in a very different and very cruel situation. As Kofi Annan put it, poverty is unbearable in a world of abundance, so once I graduated, the first thing I wanted to do was invest a lot of resources in what would be the most profitable project in my life, child labor. So I set out to find a team, a group of people who dream big and work hard and think like me to help me fix the mistakes I saw throughout my youth, and that’s where our foundation The BarefootFoundation, ‘Pies Descalzos Fundacion’ was born. I knew, and I was only 18 at the time, but I knew I wanted to focus on children and improve their lives, but I didn’t know where to start. Therefore, I felt I needed to learn what the root causes of inequality and social unrest were. So, I decided to study the reasons why children work on the streets or why some children are employed by violent organizations, such as the military or terrorists, why so many children have chronic malnutrition and I realized that most of the problems children face in my country had similar programs; lack of quality education. For me, it was clear that Education was the surest way to give all these children the best fighting opportunity to improve their lot in life because Education is the ultimate standard. When I first started building schools in Colombia, which showed very remote areas, places where there was nothing real, no infrastructure, no paved roads, no electricity, no drinking water, and we decided to build in those areas but not only to build schools but art schools. Schools with complete models that include ECD programs, school feeding programs, parent and teacher training, and another very important part of us deciding to involve the government as our active partner and make it difficult for them to say no to their role by showing them results through our holisticmodel . We have noticed that as soon as a school is built in those areas, everything is changed. Infrastructure development has been jaw-pulling electricity, and drinking water has been made available. Roads were tarred, malnutrition declined, but for the best part of the education system, the children responded positively to the course, and now those children who could be held hostage by terrorists or the military or who could have a completely different impact on their lives, are now on their way to University. Some of them are athletes; some of them are experts. That's why… I am… It's a great pleasure to work for Education which is why I love it so much because I've seen the results of places being as steep as this position and seeing all these success stories with a name and lasting Name has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my life. Now that we have said that, our work is far from being done, many developing countries are still full of inequality and internal strife, and there are many children who still need access. History is not just the past. History is being made every day now, and what matters now is how we move forward and how we will correct what is wrong, and that is a real challenge. This is the purpose of the SDGs and what the people who love My Heights with me, and many others of you do not want to achieve this here. The facts do not lie, and the numbers show what an incredible return to investing in quality education. For example, if all students in low-income countries drop out of primary school with basic reading skills, one hundred and seventy-one million people could be lifted out of poverty. Systematic change usually starts from the bottom up. Government must be accountable, and we must all put as much pressure as possible, but all other civil society groups must also play their part. So, as you may know, Shakira is from Colombia, which clearly means that she is not a native English speaker even though she sounds like this so in this part of the lesson we will actually look at various conversations with her to try to put together the five keys to her English learning process because it is clearly living proof of enthusiasm and effort. it is possible to achieve your goals of learning English and speaking fluently and confidently. So let's go! So as you will see in the following discussion the first piece of advice contained in making English a part of your daily life. Let's see how Shakira did this. So Shakira had to learn English to achieve her goals as an artist Before she could speak English at all but she realizes that combining it with her love of singing and songwriting was able to make it a fun part of her daily life. Is it really amazing that he can write his songs as an English reader with such creative words so how much time do you spend a day in English? You can maximize this time by doing things you already love but in English this could be writing a poem singing in the shower, listening to a podcast or just watching a good TV show. Now secondly it is important to know that Shakira actually did not do it alone when she decided that she would start producing music for the English boss and got her a pastor. Now while you can learn a lot on your own most of us will not be able to get really confident English without the help of a head teacher. Now the reason why this is so important is that sometimes in our study journey we hit a wall and get to a point where it is difficult to move forward in our city and it is slow and very tedious, so the teacher is great because they can actually give you feedback and can actually point out your mistakes and give you guidance to grow. and moreover a very good teacher will help you achieve your goals. Now if you are interested in learning more about thistopic I highly recommend a recent podcast that I will link to in the description below and keep in mind that you do not need to find a native teacher, in fact in some cases it is actually better to have someone who speaks your language because that person may have overcome many difficulties. your English learning and moreover Shakira was not afraid to ask for help: her friend Gloria Stefon helped give her confidence that she could succeed in English as she was in Spain so it is very important that you are surrounded by people who support your dream. Now, who is there next to you who supports your dream of learning English I suggest you find a friend who also learns English and hold each other in other words and say your goals and go every week or every two weeks and make sure you are on the right track to reach them something you can really try to do it speaks perfectly in English and with this lover I know it will be a strange and unpleasant thing at first but actually when you start doing this you will see great changes just in your speaking English. So Shakira the third sees the language as a tool for communicating with other people after learning English and decides that she also wants to learn other languages so she speaks Portuguese, Catalan, Italian and French. It is therefore very important that like Shakira you see language as a tool for communicating with different people from all over the world and not as a boring topic to read and on the other hand it is very helpful when learning third language to better understand second language and learning process in general. So I personally learned six different languages and discovered a new witheach and learned that I understand all kinds of new things about each other and work very well in the language learning program.
